Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday

I’m delighted to be participating for the first time in Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday, better known as #SFFS. If I’m understanding this correctly I’m supposed to post a short snippet and do it on British time or I’ll get my Tetley confiscated.

This snippet is taken from a work in progress. Makiko Dolan is the bounty hunter known as Mako the Shark. She’s a spacer, born and bred on a mining colony in the Asteroid Belt. She’s got a potty mouth, a bad attitude and she hates planets. But when the man she’s hunting flees to Earth, she  has to suck it up and follow him.  Which doesn’t improve her attitude one bit.

Maybe Earth’s not so bad after all. Her body almost felt like she was back in space, the water supporting and enveloping her in almost weightlessness. She scrubbed her hair and body and rinsed herself off, suddenly spotting her fruit juice. She reached for it, accidentally pushing a button. The water started to rise and bubble around her. She shrieked, as jets of water assaulted her from every direction. She dragged herself out of the water in consternation. What the freakin’ hell is this? She heard soft laughter.

Flora was back, accompanied by another woman. “It’s a Jacuzzi, Miss Dolan.”
